Targus Cord-Storing Optical Mouse Review
ratingratingratingratingrating

Targus is the biggest seller world-side of laptop accessories and with the introduction of the Targus Cord-Storing Optical Mouse, the company offers a stylish and novel take on the portable mouse. Find out how we got on with our Targus Cord-Storing Optical Mouse review.

The Targus Cord-Storing Optical Mouse is a nice looking device that fits in with the current range of Targus peripherals. It’s made from two-tone plastic, with the base being a matt grey with a ribbed-effect that means the mouse won’t slip from your hand, even on the bumpiest train journey. The top half is a one-piece glossy black plastic that incorporates the mouse buttons into it.

There is also a scroll wheel, which is of a good size and has a rubber coating to make using it smoother. However, we did find that it had a rather slow action – great when steadily reading through a document but less so when you’re trying to quickly navigate a web page, for example.

The Targus Cord-Storing Optical mouse is nicely compact and fits neatly into the palm of the hand. It connects to your laptop using a flexible USB cable. The cable is long enough to plug into the left-hand side of the laptop, should you wish, and still use it comfortably on the right.

Being USB it instantly installs itself with your laptop and being an optical mouse it can be used on any flat or rough surface. We found the sensor to be accurate, proving more than usable for daily use as well as for editing images.

Once you’ve finished using it, you can retract the cable into the body of the mouse and pack the USB connector away neatly into the base of the mouse. It’s this touch, and the compact size, that makes this mouse ideal for the mobile traveller, as it’s easy to use and to stow away.

Verdict
The Targus Cord-Storing Optical Mouse (£17 inc. VAT) is a great mouse for anyone looking for a cost-effective mouse to use on the move. It’s a good size and being able to pack the cable away makes it easy to use.
